Ontario Lake and Niagara Falls

So, I was on my tent and it had been raining for the last 2 hours. I decided that I would not spend the day in there and I though of the best option to dash to the next train station west, the one of the Belleville town. Tomas my friend helped me out with the logistics through the phone. I left and the rain had stopped a bit, it was more a light rain. I got there and I took the train to Toronto, since the weather supposed to get nice in the next 2 days.
After getting out of the trian I was wating for my bike on the luggage pick-up area of the station, and I met here Tony, an eminence of cyclism. He had a Canada's biking jacket and when he saw my bike with the Argentine flag, the Canadian as well as the Quebecoise one, he came and we had a bit of a chat. He was returning of a bike trip he could not finish for getting sick, he was doing Hamilton - Ottawa and got back getting to Kingston. He told me that I could stay at his place if I wished later on on my trip and of course I considered it.
Toronto receive me with a good "COME ON WAKE UP MAN!!" from a very Canadian-looking butchy girl doing courrier I guess, on her bike. The light was green and I had not perceived it.. :)
I spent then 2 days at Heather's house, the older syster of my roomate spencer. I visited Toronto for the thirth time, first time biking though. Toronto can be beautifull at dusk.
The after a Thursday night of beer and nachos in a cool Irish pub near Heather's home, I left Friday morning, I biked 90km to get to Hamilton at around 4:30PM.
I got there and I went to Tony's place. He introduces me Mary, his wife. They were both living there since a long time ago, and they are both Dutch. Tony has a garage were they keep their 5 bikes. He's got a newpaper's article titled "From stoney creek to PEI" about one of the numerous trips he did in Canada. Between those, its the greatest, he cross Canada through the transcanadian with a group in a period of 2 months and a half. He's got plenty of pictures in an album decorated with pins from differents cities and provinces of Canada, as well as a detailed daily diary of the trip. Awesome. We had dinner and I hit the couch at 8:30PM. I am not sure who Lance Armstrong is, but I know who Tony from Hamilton is. Next day, great breakfast, a picture and I was pedaling again at around 9:15AM.
I left to Niagara in an unexpected hot journey. The temperature in computer indicated 33 Celcius degrees, so I took a bath on the Ontario lake. I arrived to the city of niagara falls and went down through Clifton hill st and it looks like Vegas to me. It is all about gift shops, wax museums, fast food, and exuberant shows. Then I biked there to niagara av. And as a good tourist a took a couple of pics with these cool falls.
I stayed in the HI hostel of the town which was cool but far from being that hostels full of life in the north of Argentina and Bolivia.
Yesterday evening I took a train to Toronto where I am staying again at heather's and heading back to montreal tomorrow morning.
Canada is huuuge, and I can't belive I have not done this before. I am thinking now about Europe and, maybe in the future, why not Canada West - East?

Un abrazo grande a todos,

Through the St. Laurent river and Ontario lake (english)

Hello everyone! So here I am about to sleep on my tent right beside the river, some ducks are making noise and since the camping is kind of close to the provincial route 2, I can also hear some cars going back and forth.
Well, I will resume this 4 days of trip so far:

Day one (Friday): left the island after having breakfast with Tomas in a TH (he gave me both canada and quebec flags, and I have to mention this, he told me...). Went through the west of the island, a really beautiful day, sunny, not a cloud. In my way, I stop in a cafe that had 5 flags, the argentine among them. I take a picture and I met mr. Jaime, a argentinian of 76 which has lived in Montreal since he was 21. He invited me a expresso, we chat a bit and I continue. Then I basicaly get lost and I turn over the island.. I did some 20 km that I did not supose to. I think, "if i get lost here in mtl, I am done..". However, haven't gotten lost any more :), it was very tricky.
At evening of that day comes a great part of the trip.. I am surprised by 3 guys in a truck when I was about to camp in some woods in lancaster. They believing I was robbing, acted quite fast and I just explained them that I was going to Niagara and I was there just camping...(If u r a thief, lemme tell ya, that is a great line for not being trusted at all). So, they scared me the shit out if me and then they brought me to this camping where they would drop me...and come back 20 minutes later telling me they felt really bad about what happened and asling me if I wanna go sleep at their couch.. before Jeremy, mitch and their friends and me were for some beers at the local bar:

Next morning we had a great breakfast and Jeremy drop me some km ahead and i thanked him for everything. 136 km and 6 beers that first day.

Day 2 (Saturday): Same weather, more windy and less action that the first day. However landscapes are bloody cool, can't believe I haven't done this before. I went through a immigrants parade, you could find any flag in the world. I took a pic for my beloved male friends of the Iranian representative. I got to sleep in a nice camping called Grenville near Brockville.. Boring, I slept well and had pasta before i went 2 bed. I did 103km

Day 3(Sunday): Started up well, but late. I met this couple of Ontarians from Kingston in the camping, Mark and her wife (dunt remember her name...) where I had slept and they invited me a cup of coffee. I finished up leaving at around 12.. not an example!.
So from Guananoque to Odessa you can find the less cyclist friendly route in Canada so far. Awful, big trucks, very narrow, unpaved sides..and a flatt tire of course. A guy took me to the next gas station and I patched it and hopefully find the problem in the inside of the wheel that was ruining all my tubes. I hit the route again.. at around 4:30.. And got to Deseronto at around 6PM where I slept yesterday night with a free duck concert the whole night. I forgot to tell you, I did some 60km and I had pasta. I still like pasta.

Day 4(Monday): just woke up and yes... Now it is raining. My weather software says it is sunny and it was gonna b like that until evening. I am waiting for a while and the I will keep going to Bellevile or Toronto.

So that's it so far!

I ll Keep u updated!

Down the waterfront trail in Ontario, Canada..part 0

Hola amiguirijillos!

Day 1, Friday September 16th

Montreal to Cornwall

122 km

Day 2, Saturday September 17th

Cornwall to Ivy Lea

133 km

Day 3, Sunday September 18th

Ivy Lea to Picton

108 km

Day 4, Monday September 19th

Picton to Cobourg

120 km

Day 5, Wednesday September 20th

Cobourg to Pickering

105 km

Day 6, Thursday September 21th

Pickering to Hamilton

105 km

Day 7, Friday September 22th

Hamilton to Niagara-on-the-Lake

80 km

What to do if an encounter results in an attack:

  • Use your pepper spray
  • Fight back with everything you have
  • Do not play dead except in the rare instance when you are sure a mother bear is attacking you in defense of cubs
